Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - Behind phenomenal pitching by Justin Bristow and the bat of Jovan Rosa, the Peoria Chiefs shutout the Lansing Lugnuts 5-0 Thursday night at O'Brien Field. The Chiefs are now 11-15 in the second half and 49-46 overall.
The Chiefs took an early lead against the Lugnuts in the second. Kyler Burke led off the inning with a single to right-field and advanced to second on a balk by starter Joel Carreno. Michael Brenly grounded out to advance Burke to third and Jovan Rosa hit his sixth RBI of the season to plate Burke and give the Chiefs a 1-0 advantage.
Peoria tacked on three more runs in the fourth. Ryan Flaherty began the inning with a single and after the first out of the inning, advanced to second on a single by Burke. With Brenly swinging at strike three, Flaherty and Burke stole their respective bases. Rosa hit a shot over the left-field wall for his first home run in a Chiefs uniform this season to give Peoria a 4-0 lead.
The Chiefs added on to their lead with another run in the eighth. Rebel Ridling began the inning with a single up the middle and with one out, stole second with Brenly at the plate. After Brenly was issued a walk, Rosa singled to score Ridling and give the Chiefs a 5-0 lead heading into the ninth.
Lansing never really posed a threat and had only one runner past first base through the entire game. Chris Siegfried took over for reliever Manolin De Leon in the ninth and closed the game out, facing four batters and getting a force out to end the game.
Bristow (4-5) threw a career-high six innings in his fourth win of the season. He allowed only four hits while not issuing a walk and striking out eight. De Leon threw two innings, not allowing a hit while walking one and striking out three. Siegfried came on in the ninth, giving up one hit while also striking out one.
