Birmingham Barons News Release

HOOVER, AL - On Thursday, the Southern League announced the coaching staffs for the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game Presented by State Farm. Barons' manager Ever Magallanes will manage the South Division while West Tenn's manager Phil Plantier will be the skipper for the North Division when the All- Star game returns to Birmingham on Monday, July, 13.

In a separate announcement made by Major League Baseball Wednesday night, Magallanes will serve as a coach for the World Team during the 2009 Major League Baseball Futures Game that will be held on Sunday, July 12 at Busche Stadium in St. Louis.

"I am incredibly honored," Magallanes said of both assignments. "It doesn't happen every day that you're able to coach in the Futures Game and then come back the next night and be the manager in an All-Star Game. I have been blessed."

Magallanes, who will fly to Birmingham following the Futures Game, will be joined by Pitching Coach J.R. Perdew and Hitting Coach Andy Tomberlin for the All-Star Game. Barons' Athletic Trainer Joe Geck will serve in the same role for the South Division.

Plantier will be joined by West Tenn's Pitching Coach Tomm Dettore and Hitting Coach Terry Pollreisz. West Tenn's Athletic Trainer Matt Toth will serve in the same role for the North Division.

In addition, the Southern League announced the umpire crew that will work the All-Star Game. The four- man crew will consist of crew chief Gerard Ascani, Craig Barron, Travis Brown and Jordan Baker.
