Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID- The Steelheads (7-7-2) picked up two shorthanded goals this evening, but that was not enough to prevail over the Stockton Thunder (6-6-3), who earned a 7-3 win in front of 4,095 fans at Qwest Arena.
The Thunder picked up the first three goals of the game. Ryan Huddy opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal, unassisted, at 9:28. At 13:01, it became a 2-0 game when Ryan Constant scored on the power play, with an assist going to Colin McDonald. Adam Huxley made it 3-0 with an even-strength goal at 13:29, assisted by Justin Chwedoruk and Josef Hrabal. The Steelheads did tally one before the period came to a close, as Mark Bomersback scored his first ECHL goal of the season; an unassisted shorthanded goal at 16:20.
The second period began with Idaho trailing 3-1, before Mike LaLonde scored at 7:53 to put his team ahead 4-1. After the LaLonde goal, Rejean Beauchemin was replaced by Matt Climie for the Steelheads; however, Climie was relieved by Beauchemin after 2:57 of game time. The Steelheads pulled to within two when Marty Flichel banged home a rebound for the Steelheads second shorthanded goal of the night; the assists went to Bomersback and Matt Stephenson at 10:50.
The Thunder scored the first two goals of the third period: the first one came at 6:08 from Ryan MacMurchy, and the second was from Stephane Goulet at 8:35. Both were unassisted. At 11:05 of the third, on the power play, Garett Bembridge broke out of a slump with a rebound goal assisted by Riley Weselowski and Tyler Shelast.
