Cunning accepted a feed from center Jamie Lundmark and managed to thread the needle to find the back of the Peoria net and tie the game at two. Kyle Greentree gave the Flames the lead less than two minutes later when he scored during a 5-on-3 power play. Greentree recorded the tally after receiving a cross-ice pass from Ryan Wilson. Lundmark drew the secondary assist on the goal. Peoria's Chris Conner capped the scoring for the first period when he converted a 2-on-1 break following a feed from Steve Regier.
