Moose Notes

GETTING SHORTY - PART II: With the Moose down a man in the first period Friday night, James Neal scored Manitoba's second shorthanded goal of the season and second in as many games. Guillaume Desbiens is credited for netting the first of the season in Monday night's victory over the Rochester Americans. Last season, the Moose scored eight shorthanded goals, up two goals from 2006-07. In 2005-06, now Canuck, Mike Brown, set the franchise record for most shorthanded goals in a single season with five.

SCHNEIDER'S AT THE TOP: Goaltender Cory Schneider has recorded nine consecutive wins with the Moose this season, only dropping one game to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Oct. 10/08 (3-1 L). With a record of 9-1-0, 1.30 GAA and a 0.948 SV%, the tender sits in first place above all AHL goaltenders. So far, he has faced 249 shots and only allowed 13 goals. He also registered his first shutout of the season on Nov. 2/08 at Peoria against the Rivermen (4-0 W).

Upcoming Opponent

This Thursday's match-up between the Manitoba Moose and San Antonio Rampage will be the first clash between both teams this season. Last season, Manitoba and San Antonio concluded their four-game season series Mar. 20/08 at the MTS Centre, when the Moose defeated the visiting Rampage 4-2. Manitoba and San Antonio split their series last year with each team winning both match-ups on home ice. The Moose hold a 7-2-0-3 record when hosting the Rampage.

Player of the Week Nominee

Jason Jaffray

Moose left winger Jason Jaffray earned his first nomination this season as Player of the Week. He appeared in all three games for the Moose and was instrumental in securing two of three victories. Jaffray began the week by extending his points streak to nine games by scoring a pair of goals in Monday's 5-1 win over Rochester. After being held scoreless Friday against Toronto, Jaffray then scored his first hat-trick of the season including his second game-winning goal of the season and his second empty-netter to guide the Moose to a 4-2 win. Jaffray now leads the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists for 14 points. He also finished the week with 12 shots and was +4.
