Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
In 2006, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Detroit Tigers in the World Series to win their 10th title in franchise history.
On Friday night - for one night only - the hardware will be on display on the main concourse at Modern Woodmen Park.
"We're excited to have the 2006 World Series trophy at Modern Woodmen Park," said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. "Being able to work with the St. Louis Cardinals has been a great experience, and their front office has been an exceptional partner. The Cardinals have a great fan base here in the Quad Cities and the River Bandits are thrilled to be able to share in the joy of the World Championship."
Fans are invited to join the Quad Cities River Bandits for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers that will feature a series of Cardinals-related promotions, including the presence of the 2006 World Series trophy on the main concourse. Fans will have the opportunity to see the piece of baseball history up close and have their picture taken with it. The trophy will be accompanied by the John Vuch, the St. Louis Cardinals' Director of Minor League Operations.
In addition, the River Bandits will be wearing St. Louis Cardinals jerseys during the contest. Each game-worn uniform will be autographed by the player wearing the jersey and auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the Genesis Compassion Fund. Plenty of Cardinals prizes, including hats, shirts, player figurines and more will also be given away, along with a replica Cardinals jersey autographed by the current River Bandits.
The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with a Stadium Cup Giveaway thanks to the Life Fitness Center. The contest will conclude with the final KWQC Fireworks Friday of the 2008 season.
"It's been a great ride in 2008 and we're going to finish things off with a bang," said Vice President/General Manager Kirk Goodman. "We're pulling out all the stops this weekend to show River Bandits fans how much we appreciate the tremendous support they have given us this season. Fans will be able to get great giveaways and prizes, and for them to be able to share a piece of history like the 2006 World Series trophy is something that gives us a great deal of pride."
