Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Portland, Maine-Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Zach Daeges has been selected the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of May 12th through May 18th. The selection was made by Major League Baseball Advanced Media.

Daeges, 24 years-old, appeared in six games for the Sea Dogs during the week hitting .400 (8-for-20) with five doubles, one home run, seven RBI, six runs scored, eight walks and a .800 slugging percentage. Daeges reached base in all six games he played in last week and he currently has reached base in 19 straight games, which is the longest current steak in the Eastern League and the fifth longest streak in the league this season. On Sunday, Deages tied a franchise record by hitting three doubles in a game. Daeges is hitting .346 in 24 games for the Sea Dogs this season, which would rank second if he had enough at bats to qualify. Daeges missed a few weeks early in the season due to a sprained wrist.

Last season with the Single-A Lancaster JetHawks, Deages was a California League All-Star, hitting .330 with 55 doubles, 21 homers, 124 runs scored and 113 RBI. Deages was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 6th round of the 2006 draft after hitting .350 with 13 homers and 49 RBI as a senior at Creighton University.

Daeges is the third Sea Dog this season to take home a Bank of America Player of the Week honor. Previously this season Sea Dogs' pitchers Justin Masterson and Kris Johnson were selected as the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. Masterson won the award for the opening week of the season and Johnson for the week ending April 27th.

The Portland Sea Dogs have an off day today. They will begin a three game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Tuesday night at 6:35 PM in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Sea Dogs return home on Friday, May 23rd against the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins) at 6:00 PM. Tickets for all Sea Dogs' home games are currently available. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs' Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or online at www.seadogs.com.
