New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats' 2008 Season is now well underway, and early attendance figures are once again showing what a popular destination New Britain Stadium is for fans and families in the region.
The Rock Cats - the Eastern League affiliate of the American League's Minnesota Twins - reached the 100,000 attendance marker yesterday afternoon when they hosted their 5th Sellout crowd (6,207) of the new season in their twenty-second Opening of 2008. This ties the mark set last year when the franchise also eclipsed the 100,000 attendance milestone on its 22nd Opening, en route to establishing its all-time Total Season Attendance mark of 341, 416. Thus far in 2008, the Rock Cats have entertained 100,444 - the second best mark in the 12-team Eastern League - while averaging 4,566 patrons per game.
The months of April and May in New England can be - as we all know - unseasonably wet and cold, and thus a significant challenge for those staging outdoor events. The fact that the Rock Cats set a franchise record for April - when they attracted 53,471 fans to the Stadium - and another for May - when, on the 4th, they hosted their largest Monday night gathering (4,572) ever in that month - are both strong indicators that the Rock Cats and their faithful followers of all ages remain very much in synch.
"We are deeply gratified", said Rock Cats President and CEO, Bill Dowling, "by the size and level of happy enthusiasm displayed by the early season crowds at our games. While this high level of support clearly energizes the Rock Cats players, it also serves to inspire everyone else in the organization to remain faithful to the bond that exists between this franchise and its wonderful fans."
The Rock Cats are currently in the middle of their fourth Homestand of the 2008 Season. They will be competing against the Harrisburg Senators - affiliates of the National League's Washington Nationals - for the next three nights at 6:35 PM, prior to wrapping up the home stretch with a 10:35 AM contest against the Senators on Thursday morning. Good seats remain available for all of these games and may be obtained by visiting the Box Office at New Britain Stadium (M- Fri: 10 AM to 6 PM; Sat: 10 AM to 2 PM) or by calling the Rock Cats at (860) 224-8383. Fans wishing to purchase tickets on line may do so by visiting the club's website at www.rockcats.com.
