Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- The Defenders were greeted rudely at home as the Binghamton Mets pummeled Connecticut at the Dodd, 9-0.

Dave McKae took the ball for the Defs and his defense looked good in the first inning as a snappy 4-6-3 double play was turned behind him to end the frame.

The top of the second, conversely, was much more ugly. The B-Mets plated six runs in the inning on five base hits as Mike Carp singled twice and drove in the final run of the rally as Binghamton took a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Mets weren't satisfied with their big lead as they added one in the third on an RBI groundout by Jose Coronado, one in the fifth on run scoring double off the bat of Ambiorix Concepcion, and one final run in the ninth as Concepcion lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Nick Evans.

Binghamton scored nine runs on 13 base hits as the Defenders were stymied, mustering just five base hits in the game.

The Defenders were blanked for the third time of the 2008 season. In the two previous shutouts of the season, Connecticut lost 1-0 in both contests.

Connecticut will take on the Mets for the second game of the series Tuesday evening at 6:35pm. Tickets are available for the series at ctdefenders.com or by calling the ticket office at (860) 887-7962.
