Harrisburg Senators News Release
New Britain, CT - The Harrisburg Senators struck out ten times as they fell to the New Britain Rock Cats, 5-1, Monday night in Connecticut.
It was a pitcher's duel early, as former Rock Cat and current Senators RHP Tristan Crawford didn't allow a run until the 5th inning. Meanwhile, Harrisburg plated a run in the top of the 3rd when Mike Daniel singled home Ofilio Castro to give the Senators a 1-0 lead.
That was all New Britain RHP Jay Rainville would allow. Rainville, who had struggled mightily (2-5, 9.00 ERA) until Monday, gave up just one unearned run in seven innings of work while striking out eight.
The Rock Cats tied the game in the bottom of the 5th. Crawford walked the leadoff man and after a one-out double by Steve Tolleson, Dustin Martin hit an RBI groundout to make it a 1-1 game.
New Britain took the lead for good in the 6th with the help of three doubles. Trevor Plouffe doubled home a run to make it 2-1. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Drew Butera cleared the bags with a three-run double to balloon the lead to 5-1.
The Senators wouldn't threaten from there, as Rainville and reliever Zach Ward combined to shut down Harrisburg late in the game.
Rainville picked up the win to move to 3-5. Crawford dropped to 1-1.
The Senators fell to 26-15 with the loss. They are 12-2 in series openers this year. New Britain jumped over .500 as the Rock Cats went to 22-21.
The four-game series continues Tuesday at 6:35 PM. RHP Jordan Zimmermann goes to the mound for Harrisburg against New Britain LHP Errol Simonitsch.
