Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that top prospect Josh Vitters will return to Mesa, AZ with a left hand injury. Jose Made will join the Chiefs today in South Bend, IN from extended spring training to fill out the 25-man roster.

Vitters, 18, joined the Chiefs on April 18 and collected three doubles in his first game at Great Lakes with a RBI. However, he injured his left hand during a swing that same weekend and appeared in just four games. He left the game on Monday April 21 at Lansing after grounding out in his second at-bat. The injury is diagnosed as left hand tendonitis and has already cost Vitters nine full games as he returns to extended spring training.

Vitters, rated the number one prospect in the Cubs organization by Baseball America, was selected out of high school as the third overall pick in last year's draft. Last season, between Mesa and Boise, he hit just .118 (6-for-51) after an extended layoff between his high school season and being drafted. In his final high school season, Vitters hit .390 with nine home runs and earned first-team All-America honors.

Made joins the Chiefs from Mesa, AZ where he was still in the Cubs extended spring training. He played last season in the Short-Season Northwest League with the Boise Hawks as an infielder. In 39 games he hit .192 with one home run and eight RBI. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Made was drafted by the Cubs in the 20th round of the 2007 draft out of Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY.

The move keeps the Chiefs roster at 25 players as Made joins the team in Indiana for the third game of their 10-game road trip Sunday at 1:30 pm Eastern Time. The Chiefs head to Cedar Rapids, IA for three games beginning Monday before finishing the trip with a four-game set in Clinton, IA.
