Flichel leads Idaho to victory over Condors

BOISE, Idaho - F Marty Flichel recorded a seven-point night to lead the Idaho Steelheads to an 8-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 5,579 fans at Qwest Arena Saturday night. However, the Condors remain tied with the Phoenix RoadRunners, who were idle tonight, for the final National Conference playoff spot.

The Steelheads (33-17-9, 75 points) took control early in the game, scoring three times in the span of 46 seconds, and eventually making it a 4-0 lead over the Condors (17-30-9, 43 points) through one period. Flichel had four points in the period. Idaho padded their lead with three more tallies in the second. F John Lammers notched two in the middle frame to give him the hat trick for the Steelheads, who took a 7-0 advantage into the dressing room through 40 minutes.

Bakersfield got on the board in the third with the help of their power play. F Tim Konsorada and C Steve Slonina lit the lamp on the man advantage to put the Condors in the scoring column. After Idaho netted its eighth goal of the game, C Eric Sonnenberg notched his sixth of the season to make the score 8-3. G Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 18 of 19 shots in relief of starter G Michel Robinson, who was pulled after the second period.
