P.J. Connelly retires; Bobby Cassevah arrives from Tempe

May 31, 2007 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels report that LHP P.J. Connelly has voluntarily retired due to a left rotator cuff strain and that RHP Bobby Cassevah will join the Kernels from extended spring training in Tempe, AZ.

Connelly's retirement was announced and confirmed by Tony Reagins, the Director of Player Development for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

In eight games for the Kernels, Connelly was 1-1 with a 5.50 ERA. In 18 innings, he allowed 17 hits and 12 runs (11 earned) with five walks and nine strikeouts.

Bobby Casesevah was drafted by the Angels in the 34th round of the 2004 Free Agent Draft and has spent two seasons in the Angels minor league system. The native of Jacksonville, FL spent 2006 at Orem where he posted a 2-5 record with a 6.80 ERA in 16 games with 10 starts. In 41 innings pitched, he allowed 57 hits and 40 runs (31 earned) with 38 walks and 32 strikeouts.

Today's move puts the Kernels roster at 25 active players with four currently on the DL.
