West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

LANSING - A nine run second inning put Lansing on top for good in a convincing 13-6 win over the Whitecaps in game one of a double header. With the victory, the Lugnuts pull to within a half game of West Michigan in the Eastern Division First-Half Wild Card race.

In the second, the Lugnuts became the first team this season to send more than nine batters to the plate in an innings against the Whitecaps when 14 batted.

Oddities of the inning included Sean Shoffit who made the second (strikeout) and third (pop to shortstop) outs of the inning at the plate. Eight Lugnuts batters in a row reached base at one point.

Jonah Nickerson started the game for the Whitecaps, but lasted just 1.2 innings. He allowed 10 runs on 8 hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Lauren Gagnier pitched the remainder of the game for West Michigan.

In the first inning, the Whitecaps took a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Ryan Strieby. The first baseman finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. He also had a double.

Lansing scored two in the bottom of the first to tie on a two-run double by Matt Lane. He had four RBI in the game and finished 3-for-4.

Lane is 8-for-12 in the past three games against the Whitecaps.

Game Two: RHP Josh Rainwater (5-1, 2.05) will be on the mound for the Whitecaps against RHP Adrian Martin (1-1, 1 save, 1.07) for the Lugnuts. First pitch is scheduled for 8:53 p.m. and the game can be heard live on 1340 AM WBBL and at wbbl.com.
