Dayton Dragons News Release
Midland, MI - In a hard fought ballgame, the Dragons just could not get that final out and Great Lakes scored three times in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with the victory 7-6 over Dayton in game three of the four game series.
In the bottom of the ninth with the Dragons up 6-4, Ramon Geronimo (LP, 1-1) allowed a one out single to Juan Apodaca, and then two out singles to Bridger Hunt and Adolfo Gonzalez, the latter of which scored Apodaca to bring the Loons within one. The Dragons went to the bullpen, bringing in Pedro Viola (ND) to face Josh Bell. Bell responded with an opposite field double, scoring the tying and winning runs, and the Loons took a 2-1 series edge.
Geronimo (LP, 1-1) got the Dragons out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh inning with the help of Gerardo Cabrera. After Lee Tabor (ND) had put two runners on base, Geronimo allowed an RBI single to make the score 5-4. Adolfo Gonzalez followed with a single to right, but Cabrera threw a strike to the plate to get Apodaca, and saving the 5-4 lead for the Dragons at the time.
Dayton jumped on Great Lakes starter Arismendy Castillo (ND) for five runs on five hits in the second inning. Juan Francisco led off with a single and scored the first run of the inning on a throwing error by second baseman Preston Mattingly. With two outs, Drew Stubbs sandwiched a two RBI single between RBI hits from Logan Parker and Justin Turner to help the Dragons to a 5-0 lead. The Dragons scored their sixth run of the night when Turner picked up an RBI single in the top of the ninth, which looked to be a good insurance run at the time.
The Loons would chip away off of Dragons starter Travis Webb (ND). Webb allowed three runs in 6.0 innings, including a two run home run to Scott Van Slyke. In the game, Webb struck out four and walked one, allowing six hits.
The Dragons and Loons wrap up the four game set Friday evening at Dow Diamond with a 7:05 PM first pitch. The Dragons will start RHP Sean Watson (3-2, 1.86 ERA) while the Loons will counter with RHP Josh Wall (2-6, 6.14 ERA). 1410 ESPN Radio will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons Pre Game Show at 6:30 PM. All Dragons games in 2007 are also carried live on the internet via All In Broadcasting at www.daytondragons.com.
