Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Another night, another tight game.

On Tuesday, the RedHawks played their fifth one-run game on this trip, coming from behind to beat Iowa 5-4 at Principal Park. The RedHawks are 3-3 on the trip, 2-0 in this series and 22-15 in one-run games this season.

Down 3-0 after five innings, Oklahoma rallied for four runs in the sixth off former OU Sooner Rocky Cherry and former big leaguer Kerry Ligtenberg. Cherry allowed a hit and a walk, followed by an RBI single by Laynce Nix to make the score 3-1. Ligtenberg entered the game and one out later allowed a three-run homer down the line in left by Jason Hart to give Oklahoma a 4-3 lead.

Reliever Ryan Bukvich (2-2) allowed a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score, but set down the final six batters he faced to earn the win. Erasmo Ramirez retried all five he faced for his third save. The last 11 Iowa batters were retired.

The RedHawks scored the decisive run in the seventh on a one-out single by Drew Meyer, followed by a Ligtenberg balk and an error on shortstop Mike Fontenot. David Aardsma was summoned to face Jason Botts, who singled to load the bases. Adam Hyzdu followed with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly. Ligtenberg falls to 2-3.

Iowa pitching struck out 15 RedHawks, a season high for Oklahoma. Cubs starter Angel Guzman fanned eight in 3 2/3 innings before leaving with cramping in his right arm, according to Iowa Cubs personnel.

The RedHawks, now 46-49, out-hit Iowa 9-7. The Cubs, who had won eight straight entering this series, fall to 48-47.

Game three of the series is Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. CDT in Des Moines. Right-hander R.A. Dickey will pitch for Oklahoma against the Cubs' Randy Wells. The game will air live on 1340 KEBC and the RedHawks Radio Network.
