
51s Return Home For Season-Long 12-Game Home Stand

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will return to Cashman Field for a season-long 12-game home stand beginning on Friday, July 21, against the Portland Beavers, Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, at 7:05 p.m. It marks the first 12-game home stand since the 2002 season and it will run through Tuesday, August 1.
The 51s, under manager Jerry Royster, are currently on a four-game road trip to Tacoma that will conclude on Thursday. The 51s, 46-51, are in third place in the Pacific Conference Southern Division.
The Las Vegas franchise will reach the 300,000 plateau in "home" attendance for the 24th consecutive season (1983-present). In 2006, Las Vegas has a total of 261,624 in 52 dates for an average of 5,031. Las Vegas is 38,376 fans shy of reaching the 300,000 mark. The team is on pace to surpass last season's total of 334,485 (4,645 average) which was the highest single season mark since the 1999 season (339,702).
The home stand opener on Friday will feature Ozzie Guillen Bobblehead Night, sponsored by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a Guillen Bobblehead in a Las Vegas Stars uniform. Guillen played for the Stars in 1984 as a top shortstop prospect in the San Diego Padres organization. He appeared in 122 games and batted .296 (137-for-463) with 26 doubles and 53 RBI. He enjoyed a 16-year Major League career (1985-2000) and was a three-time All-Star. He played with the Chicago White Sox (1985-97), Baltimore (1998), Atlanta (1998-99) and Tampa Bay (2000). He is currently in his third season as manager for the White Sox and guided them to the 2005 World Series Championship. He was named the American League Manager of the Year by The Sporting News and Baseball America.
Game two of the four-game series on Saturday, July 22 at 7:05 p.m. will feature Dodger T-Shirt Night, to the first 2,500 fans in attendance. The final two games of the series will take place on Sunday, July 23 at 12:05 p.m. and Monday, July 24 at 7:05 p.m.
The Portland Beavers feature Las Vegan Justin Leone. The third baseman is a 1999 graduate of Bonanza High School and was a member of the 2006 PCL All-Star Team. He is in his first season in the Padres organization. Craig Colbert, former player and coach of the Las Vegas Stars (1985-88), is in his third season as the manager of the Beavers and is a Las Vegas resident.
Las Vegas then will host the Omaha Royals, Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, from Tuesday-Friday, July 25-28, with all games at 7:05 p.m. The Royals will be making their first appearance to Cashman Field since the 2003 season.
Budweiser Dollar Beer Night will be featured on Thursday, July 27 and 51s Baseball Bat Night will be featured in the series finale on Friday, July 28. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a baseball bat and the fourth of six Carl's Jr. Family Nights will also be presented. The Carl's Jr. Family Night Deal is a great way for the family to enjoy a night of 51s baseball at the ball park. Las Vegas then will conclude the home stand with a four-game series against the Iowa Cubs, Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, from Saturday-Tuesday, July 29 "" August 1. The Cubs are also making their first appearance to Cashman Field since the 2003 season.
The series opener on Saturday, July 29, at 7:05 p.m. will feature a post-game "Fireworks Spectacular." Diego "Chico" Corrales, current WBC and Ring magazine Lightweight Boxing Champion will be in attendance and will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. He will also be available during the game, to sign autographs, take pictures and most of all to thank his fans for all there support.
The Diabetic Life Foundation and the 51s will conduct free screening for diabetes for the games on Friday and Saturday, July 28 and 29. For further information call the Diabetic Life Foundation at 614-0041.
Game two of the series will feature a matinee contest on Sunday, July 30 at 12:05 p.m. The final two games of the home stand will begin at 7:05 p.m.
Tickets for all 51s home games can be purchased at the Cashman Field box office. The box office is open Monday-Friday from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased through TicketMaster (474-4000, www.ticketmaster.com). TicketMaster outlets are located at Smith's Food & Drug, Tower Records and Robinsons-May, located at The Fashion Show & The Galleria Mall.
The individual game tickets for the 72-game home season are priced at $7.00 (general admission), $9.00 (reserved), $10.00 (plaza) and $12 (field). The traditional $2.00 discount for Military personnel is offered on plaza, reserved and G.A. seats throughout the season.
