Game Keys: Ryan Church drilled a two run home run to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs to 6-5 victory in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday evening in Albuquerque. Albuquerque scored four runs in the second inning sending nine batters to the plate to grab the lead. The Zephyrs came from behind to win the game scoring the go ahead run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch allowing Josh Labandeira to score. The Zephyrs added a run in the seventh inning on a double steal and a throwing error by catcher Paul Hoover to allow Henry Mateo to score. Billy Traber pitched six innings and earned his second consecutive win. Travis Hughes pitched the seventh and earned the save allowing one unearned run. Hughes earned his first save since May 13th.
Game Notes: The Zephyrs have lost eight of the ten games this season against Albuquerque. Zephyr outfielder Marlon Byrd was hit by a pitch and left the game in the second inning with a bruised hand. Tuesday's game was the second rain out of the season for the Zephyrs, both on the road. Albuquerque has rained out two game since baseball returned to the Duke City, the Z's have been involved in both.... New Orleans reliever Travis Hughes has allowed just one earned run in his last 17.0 innings of work (11 games) dating to June 23...He leads the Pacific Coast League with 44 games pitched...the 28-year old ranks 2nd among all PCL relievers with 74 strikeouts. Ryan Church has reached base safely in 12 of his last 13 games, going 14-for-44 (.325) over the stretch...New Orleans starting pitcher Billy Traber made his team leading 19th start of the season. Z's have announced that former LA Dodger Manager Tommy Lasorda will join new LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri at the Zephyr Luncheon at the Ponchartrain Center on August 10th.
