Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis crushed five home runs on the night and rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to complete a 10-7 comeback win in front of 7,812 fans at AutoZone Park on Wednesday.
Mike Rose led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo homer off the right field foul pole to tie the game at six. Five batters later, first baseman Shawn Garrett cranked a monstrous three-run shot over the seats in right to give Memphis a 9-6 advantage. Bo Hart was hit by a pitch and scored on a Junior Spivey single to cap-off a five-run eighth-inning rally for Memphis.
Timo Perez started the fireworks for Memphis with a solo homer to lead off the second inning. Two innings later, Rose added his first solo homer of the night to start a three-run frame. After a John Nelson walk, Rico Washington recorded his first long ball as a Redbird to give Memphis a 4-3 lead after four.
Round Rock regained the lead with a three-run sixth that was highlighted by a two-run titanic blast over the Redbirds bullpen in right-center by Cody Ransom measuring 435 feet. Memphis answered with a run in the seventh when Spivey tripled home Garrett, cutting the lead to 6-5.
After the Redbirds rally, Round Rock brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Brian Falkenborg induced Joe McEwing into a pop-up to end the game. Both teams banged out 12 hits as Memphis tied a season-high for home runs in a game with five. Perez led Memphis with three hits and Spivey, Rose and Garrett added two hits apiece. Garrett was 1-for-10 since joining the Redbirds before crushing the game-winning homer in the eighth.
Memphis will send left-hander Chris Narveson (4-3, 3.08) to the hill tomorrow to try and salvage the series. Right-hander Jared Gothreaux (4-6, 4.08) will take the ball for Round Rock. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. CST.
