Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Rashad Eldridge went 3 for 4 with a three-run homer and Mike Pelfrey tossed seven strong innings, leading the Binghamton Mets to a 7-1 win over the Akron Aeros in the series opener at Canal Park Tuesday. The win, Binghamton's eighth in their last 12 games, snaps a seven-game losing streak to the Aeros and an eight-game skid at Canal Park. The B-Mets' (31-39) offense got the ball rolling with two out in the second. Jay Caligiuri began the rally with a double off Bear Bay before Eldridge drove him in with a single up the middle. Corey Ragsdale followed with a triple to left-center, scoring Eldridge and putting Binghamton up 2-0. Akron (45-24) got their only run the bottom of the second, when Jared Sandberg reached Pelfrey for an infield single, stole second and came home on Ivan Ochoa's base hit up the middle. Pelfrey (3-1) allowed just four hits, striking out six, en route to his third straight win. After Ray Navarrete's second homer in as many games gave Binghamton a 3-1 lead in the third, the B-Mets put the game away in the sixth. Michel Abreu and Andy Wilson began the frame with singles off Bay (4-4) before being bunted to second and third, respectively, by Caligiuri. Up came Eldridge, who launched a three-run homer to left for a 6-1 lead. The B-Mets picked up another insurance run in the ninth, when Jorge Padilla hit a two-out double and Abreu followed with an RBI single. Michel also had a three-hit game. Tuesday, the B-Mets play the second game of their four-game set at Akron. Miguel Pinango (1-4, 4.28) will start for Binghamton against Adam Miller (6-4, 3.97) of Akron. Game time is 7:05 from Canal Park with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
