Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- New Hampshire used five walks in the 2nd Inning and a pair of home runs to beat the Thunder, 8-4, at Waterfront Park on Tuesday night in front of 4,808 fans.
New Hampshire (32-37) took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Brad Hassey two-out RBI single. After Matt DeSalvo loaded the bases, he then walked three straight batters, Justin Singleton, Curtis Thigpen and Adam Lind, to force in three runs and give the Fisher Cats a 4-0 lead. DeSalvo (1-1) allowed four runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings with five walks and no strikeouts.
Trenton (35-35) closed the gap to 5-3 after three innings on an RBI single by RF Vince Fasion and a two-run double by DH Bronson Sardinha, but New Hampshire starter David Purcey escaped further trouble with three double plays. He also got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jame in the 4th Inning. Purcey (1-0) got the win allowing three runs and eight hits in seven innings.
After Trenton closed to within two runs, New Hampshire scored twice in the 4th Inning and capped the night with a solo homer from 1B Chip Cannon in the 8th Inning. Trenton stayed close as Charlie Manning worked four "perfect" innings out of the bullpen.
The series continues on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Jeff Karstens (3-0, 2.66) starts for the Thunder against New Hampshire's Michael McDonald (6-4, 3.81).
