Harrisburg Senators News Release
Today's Game... The Senators and Altoona Curve open up a weeknight four-game series at Commerce Bank Park tonight. The two teams played last Tues - Thurs with Altoona taking two of three after the Sens won the opening game. Harrisburg is coming off a three game sweep at Erie while Altoona swept Reading at Blair County Ballpark. Overall Altoona has won five straight games. The Senators open play seven games behind Akron and three games behind Altoona. RHP Kip Bouknight is making his second start in a week against Altoona while the Curve send the Pirates 2002 4th round pick RHP Wardell Starling to the mound in his first AA start.
Last Time Out... The Senators crushed a season-high eight home runs in defeating the Erie SeaWolves 17-9 on Sunday afternoon in Erie. Tim Raines Jr. & Dan DeMent both homered twice in the game. Raines hit his first in the first, DeMent hit a solo shot in the second to make it 2-0. Frank Diaz hit a two-run hr in the third to push the score to 4-0. In the fourth the Senators exploded. Raines hit his second home run, a grand slam, and DeMent finished off the eight-run inning with a three-run hr. Kory Casto hit a solo hr leading off the sixth and Josh Whitesell added a two-run hr in the sixth the make the score 15-1. Melvin Dorta finished the onslaught with a solo hr in the ninth. Prentice Redman and Frank Diaz both extended their hitting streak's to 14 games.
League Leaders... Melvin Dorta (.304) is sixth; Kory Casto (.302) is eighth; and Salomon Manriquez (.301) is ninth in the league in batting... Casto and Josh Whitesell are tied for fourth in the league in home runs with 11... Casto leads the leads the league in RBIs (49); Casto is second in the league in on-base percentage (.420); Casto is third in the league in slugging percentage (.539); and Casto is second in the league in runs scored (43)... Dorta is tied for fourth in the league in stolen bases (17)...
Player of the Week... Kory Casto has been named the player of the week by the Eastern League. He's the first Senator to receive the honor this season. Over the past week he was 11 x 22 with 4HR and 9RBIs and 9R. Last season the Sens had the player of the week three times and pitcher of the week three times.
As the weather heats up... Both Prentice Redman and Frank Diaz have 14 game hitting streaks. Diaz is 7 x 21 (.333) HR 4RBI; Kory Casto is 8 x 17 (.471) 2HR 5RBI; As a team the Senators are averaging 7.5 runs over their past ten games. They have hit 20 home runs in their past eight games, including 8 on Sunday at Erie.
They have scored first in their past seven games and 10 of their past 13 games. The Sens have also reached double digits in hits in seven of their past ten games. Over their past 15 games they have 23 multi-run innings.
Versus Altoona... Tonight is the seventh game of 23 this season between the two teams. The Senators play Altoona more than any other opponent this season. The series it tied at three each.
