August 23, 2005 - Southern League (SL1)
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
Suns' right-hander Chad Billingsley became the second Suns pitcher in as many weeks to be named the Southern League Pitcher of the week, winning both of his starts last week to keep Jacksonville in the race for first place in the South Division.
The Suns are currently 1.5 games behind division leader Birmingham. Billingsley extended Jacksonville's winning streak to 11 games by throwing six innings of three-hit ball in the Suns' 6-4 win against Mississippi August 16. The Suns' streak reached 12 games before being snapped. Five days later, Billingsley baffled the Braves again, shutting out Mississippi for seven innings in Jacksonville's 2-0 victory. Billingsley's 11 wins ranks second in the Southern League and his 150 strikeouts leads the league. Baseball America rates Billingsley the number two prospect in the Dodgers' organization.
The Dodgers selected Billingsley with the 24th pick in the first round of the 2003 draft out of Defiance High School in Ohio.
