Birmingham, Ala.- Tennessee won for the fifth time in as many tries this season at Hoover Met with a 15-5 wipeout of Birmingham late Tuesday night.
In a game that was delayed by an hour and forty-six minutes at the outset, Tennessee erupted for a 7-run fourth inning against starter Charlie Haeger (5-3). Leading 6-0, the Smokies sent eleven men to the plate. Dan Ugglan, Chris Carter, and Jamie D'Antona each contributed one out singles prior to Matt Morgan's second two-run double of the contest. Jon Zeringue followed with a two-run homer to left, chasing Haeger with Tennessee ahead 11-0.
Dan Uggla and Chris Carter added late inning solo homers for Tennessee.
Smokies starter Dustin Nippert (8-3) held Birmingham scoreless on four hits over six innings for the win.
The Barons scored four runs in the seventh inning against Justin Wechsler, including a two run double from Andy Gonzalez.
Tennessee looks to stay undefeated at the Met with an 8:00 Eastern start. RHP Tony Pena (7-10, 4.44) will start for the Smokies opposite LHP Daniel Haigwood (4-1, 1.20).
