Pearl, MS- The Mississippi Braves shutout the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 6-0 in the first game of a four game series from TrustMark Park.

Left-hander Brian O'Connor blanked the Diamond Jaxx over six innings. O'Connor (9-7) allowed five hits and five walks as he danced in and out of trouble for much of the six innings on the mound. Seth Bobbitt and Casey DeHart combined to allow just one base runner over the final three innings.

The Braves jumped on losing pitcher Renyel Pinto for four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Pinto (9-3) allowed a lead-off single to Wes Timmons. After retiring the next two batters, Pinto walked Michael Rosamond and Martin Prado to load the bases. Miguel Bernard hit a flyball to left field that dropped in for a two run double, thanks to a 30-40 MPH gust of wind blowing straight in from left field. The Braves made it 4-0 when Carlos Duran followed with a two run triple.

After a twenty three minute rain delay, the Braves took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI single by Bernard, his third RBI of the night. The Braves closed out the scoring in the eighth inning on a pinch-hit RBI single by Juan Velazquez off David Aardsma.

Game two of the four game series takes place on Tuesday night at 7:05 CDT. Left-hander Ryan O'Malley (3-2 4.68) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Mississippi will counter with Paul Bush (2-0 2.31).
