Mississippi Braves News Release
The Braves fought back to take a tough one from the D-Jaxx in game two of this four-game series, 3-2, before 2,479 fans at Trustmark Park on Tuesday night.
West Tenn took the early lead with a run in the third and added another run in the sixth. Mississippi cut the lead in half in the bottom of the sixth, and the score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the ninth. Mississippi plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth to win game two of this series.
D-JAXX 1, BRAVES 0 West Tenn took the lead in the third when catcher Joes Reyes lead off with a double. Ryan O'Malley sacrificed him over to third and Ryan Theriot got an infield single that brought Reyes to the plate with the games first run.
D-JAXX 2, BRAVES 0 The Diamond Jaxx added another run in sixth when Adam Greeberg and Ryan Theriot drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Casey McGehee tried to sacrifice bunt them over but instead popped up to third baseman Wes Timmons. Timmons alertly let the ball drop to the ground (the infield fly rule does not apply on a bunt), tagged third, and threw to second to get Theriot out at second. The great play went for nought as Aaron Sisk doubled to left, bringing McGehee in all the way from first, giving West Tenn a two run advantage.
D-JAXX 2, BRAVES 1 Mississippi cut into the Diamond Jaxx lead in the sixth when Onil Joseph drew a walk to start the inning. Josh Arteaga then singled to left-center moving Joseph to third. Wes Timmons ripped a double to left that brought Joseph to the plate, but Arteaga was thrown out at the plate attempting to tie the score.
BRAVES 3, D-JAXX 2 The Braves tied the score in the bottom of the ninth when Luis Hernandez reached on a fielder's choice and Josh Burrus drilled a doubled off of the left-center field wall bringing Hernandez in from first. Miguel Bernard then singled to left bringing Burrus to the plate with the winning run.
Braves starter Paul Bush (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K) gave the Braves their third consecutive solid start, but left the game trailing 2-0. Jason Richardson (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) threw two shutout innings to keep Mississippi in the game. Glenn Tucker (1.0 IP, 3 BB, 1 K) threw one shutout inning for the Braves despite walking the bases loaded, and improves to 4-2 on the year.
For West Tenn, Ryan O'Malley (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 HB) allowed one run through six innings but failed to factor into the decision. Thomas Atlee (1.0 IP, 1 K) threw a shutout inning for West Tenn. David Aardsma (1.0 IP) threw a shutout inning for West Tenn. Andy Shipman (0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER) allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth to fall to 3-6 on the year.
The Braves take on the Diamond Jaxx in game three of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05. RHP Sean White (2-4, 4.15) will take the hill for Mississippi while West Tenn will counter with righty Ricky Nolasco (11-3, 3.26).
