
BayBears win third straight; ground into triple play

HUNTSVILLE, AL- The Huntsville Stars second triple play in franchise history was the highlight of their night Tuesday, as the Mobile BayBears beat Huntsville 7-5. Joe Gerber hit a home run to lead off the top of the seventh inning, sparking a five run rally in which ten batters came to the plate. The BayBears had 15 hits in the game, including four by Kennard Jones and three by Corey Smith.
The top of the fourth inning ended with an unusual 1-2-3-5 triple play. The BayBears had the bases loaded when Steve Baker hit a ground ball back to pitcher Ty Taubenheim. Taubenheim threw to catcher Jeff Winchester, who stepped on home plate and threw to first base. Mobile's Smith broke off third base, and was tagged out by Huntsville third baseman Nelson Castro.
For the second straight night, the BayBears bullpen came through, with a scoreless 6th-9th innings. "I think we are all trying to throw strikes and end the season strong," said Mobile pitcher Jose Oyervidez.
