Round Rock Express News Release

(MEMPHIS, TN) - Two veteran right-handers, Brandon Duckworth for the Express and Kevin Jarvis for Memphis, went after each other almost with a vengeance on Wednesday afternoon at Auto Zone Park. Each pitcher surrendered a solo homer, each struck out five, and neither figured in the decision.

RF Todd Self's lead-off homer in the second inning put the Express up 1-0.

2B Bo Hart drilled a Duckworth slider onto the berm in left field to tie the score at 1-1 in the fifth inning.

Both teams had numerous chances. Memphis left two in scoring position in the first inning, two in scoring position in the third inning, and the bases loaded in the eighth inning. The Express left a total of eight runners on including the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning.

It was an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning, however, that was the game winner. Bo Hart, who had homered to tie the game in the fifth inning, doubled off reliever Roberto Giron to open the inning. An intentional walk to RF John Rodriguez set up a double play. However, Raul Gonzalez hit a bouncer back to the mound. Giron threw wide to third base, and Hart scored the game winner, with the final 2-1.

The Express and Memphis meet in game three of the series on Thursday at 7:05 PM at Auto Zone Park.

The Express return home for an eight game home stand on Saturday, June 25. They will host the Albuquerque Isotopes (Triple-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins) in the first four game series and then will take on the New Orleans Zephyrs (Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals) for four games.
