Retro night rally makes winners out of 'Topes

Mark Little's ninth-inning triple down the left-field line scored Josh Wilson from first base and lifted the Albuquerque Isotopes (41-33) to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Nashville Sounds (39-35) Wednesday night at Isotopes Park. The ‘Topes, who trailed 2-0 after five innings, tied the game in the sixth before Little's game-winner in the final frame before 9,635 fans at Albuquerque Dukes Retro Night at The Lab.

Nashville reliever Jeff Bennett (1-1) surrendered a lead-off single to Wilson in the ninth before being Little's dramatic base hit with one out. Ben Howard (2-2), who pitched three scoreless innings in relief of ‘Topes starter Jeff Fulchino, picked up the win for the Isotopes. Little and Jason Wood each finished with three hits for Albuquerque.

The Sounds jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Dave Krynzel led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a base hit by Trent Durrington. A single and a fly out moved Durrington to third before he scored on a ground out by Brad Nelson. But Fulchino settled in soon after and held the Sounds scoreless until he was relieved in the seventh inning.

Nashville starter Rick Helling baffled the Isotopes offense early with five scoreless innings before running into trouble in the sixth when the ‘Topes finally broke through with two runs to tie the game. Back-to-back singles by Todd Sears and Wood put runners on first and second with no outs and Josh Willingham was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Matt Padgett. Padgett came through with an RBI-single to right field that brought home Sears. One out later, Wilson tied the game with a sacrifice fly to deep center field.

The ‘Topes will take on the Sounds in the third game of a four-game series Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-handed starter Peter Bauer (3-4, 6.44) is scheduled to take the mound for Albuquerque against Nashville righty Justin Lehr (6-6, 4.95). The first 2,500 fans through the gate will receive the 2005 Isotopes team baseball card set as part o Baseball Card Night at The Lab. Fans coming out to Friday night's contest will be treated to the hilarious antics of BirdZerk!
