Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

Kannapolis, NC – With one out in the ninth Francisco Hernandez came less than a foot from tying the game at three. Down 3-1 Javier Castillo and Daron Roberts hit back to back singles to put runners on first and second with one out. Hernandez came to the plate as a pinch hitter, and smacked the second pitch he saw up the first base line shooting towards the corner, but the ball slipped just to the right of the first base bag and the two runners crossing home plate had to return to first and second. Hernandez would single, but Castillo was thrown out at the plate. And Jose De Los Santos grounded out to second to end the game.

The I's fell for the second straight night, dropping to 1-2 on the year. Ray Liotta started for Kannapolis allowing just one run through five innings, but neither he nor Asheville starter Ching-Lung Lo factored in the decision. Matt Daley took the win with three innings of scoreless relief while Leo Mayi was tagged with the loss giving up one run in two innings.

Scott Beerer took care of the I's in the ninth for his first save of the year. Justin Nelson kept the offense clicking for the Tourists going 1-2 with two walks and a run scored. The Tourists improve to 2-1. The two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon at 5:05 pm. Kannapolis' Adam Russell against Asheville starter David Patton.
