Bouwmeester and Weiss loaned to Chicago Wolves
March 8, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL) San Antonio Rampage
SAN ANTONIO Mar. 8, 2005 San Antonio Director of Hockey Operations Matt Loughran announced today that D Jay Bouwmeester and C Stephen Weiss have been loaned to the Chicago Wolves (AHL) for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs.
One of our organizations top priorities is to provide our players with the best possible development and training necessary to compete in the National Hockey League, Loughran said. While this was a very difficult decision, both Mike Keenan and I felt it was necessary to make this move to help further develop the careers of these two young players. Jay and Stephen will be afforded the invaluable experience of being exposed to the intensity and physical demands of a playoff run. The loss of Jay and Stephen to our lineup provides for an opportunity for our other players to step up. Our club will continue to work hard and compete in all of our games.
Bouwmeester, 21, has appeared in 64 games with San Antonio this season registering 17 points (4-13-17), while also being selected as the Rampages representative at the 2005 AHL All-Star Classic. Floridas first choice (third overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Bouwmeester completed his second season in the NHL last year recording 20 points (2-18-20) in 61 contests.
Weiss, 21, paced San Antonio with 15 goals and 23 assists in 62 games this season. Floridas first choice (fourth overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Weiss also completed his second full season in the NHL last year and ranked fourth on the Panthers with 29 points (12-17-29) in 50 games played.
