
Zykov Claimed on Waivers by Oilers

RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that forward Valentin Zykov has been claimed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers. In addition, goaltender Scott Darling has cleared waivers and has been reassigned to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.
Zykov, 23, recorded three assists in 13 games with the Hurricanes this season and scored two goals in six games with the Checkers. The 6'0", 220-pound forward posted 11 points (4g, 7a) in 25 games for Carolina since making his NHL debut on March 3, 2017. The St. Petersburg, Russia, native was acquired by the Hurricanes from Los Angeles in exchange for Kris Versteeg on Feb. 28, 2016.
Darling, 29, has registered a 2-4-1 record with a 3.14 goals-against average and .892 save percentage in seven games for Carolina this season. He played one game with Charlotte on a conditioning stint, making 25 saves in a 3-1 win at Utica on Oct. 24. The 6'5", 226-pound goaltender has appeared in 50 games for the Hurricanes, recording a 15-25-8 record with a 3.17 goals-against average and .889 save percentage. The Newport News, Va., native was acquired by Carolina from Chicago in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (Evan Barratt) on April 29, 2017.
