TONIGHT
Stockton hosts Ontario to kick off their season long, six-game home stand starting tonight at 7:00 PM for Harry Potter Night. Tonight is the fifth of ten meeting between the two clubs and the Heat sit in fourth in the Pacific Division, one spot ahead of Ontario. Stockton's busiest month of the season is nearly in the books and they would love to cap it off with a win to finish the month 7-6. Stockton is 5-2 outside of Northern California in November and a big key for Stockton during this home stand is to build an identity on home ice. Stockton is 2-1-1 against Ontario this season, featuring ten goals in the two games at Stockton Arena. Stockton rides a two game losing streaks entering tonight, including Tuesday morning's loss in San Jose. Ontario has back-to-back impressive wins, including yesterday morning's win over Bakersfield in their school day game.
Tonight is the first ever Harry Potter Night at Stockton Arena. Don't forget to bring your socks to the Arena tonight to throw onto the ice after the first Heat goal, Teddy Bear Toss style! There will be live owls in the building and each section in the Arena will be decorated and assigned to a Hogwarts House!
WHO TO WATCH
Dillon Dube is back in Stockton and will be ready for a full work load in Stockton. The 20-year-old rookie skated in 20 games with the Flames earlier this season before being assigned yesterday to Stockton. Dube has a modest one goal and four assists this year with Calgary. Bill Peters and Flames management stressed the importance of having Dube get more ice time and fans should expect to see Dube play in all situations for the Heat tonight.
Heat fans got a taste of the highly-touted Flames prospect last spring when he skated in six games for Stockton, notching four assists. Dube, a natural center, has played on the wing with Calgary most of the season, but expect the youngster to get a look at center down in Stockton. Dube's speed and play making ability will help bolster an already dangerous forward group in transition.
POINT STREAK FOR LAZAR
Curtis Lazar is riding a career-best five game point streak coming into tonight and the former first round pick has ten points in his last seven games. Lazar has made it clear that he very confident with where his game is right now and the numbers are backing it up. His seven goals and ten assists rank tied for second on the team and he leads the Heat in power play points with nine. Lazar is also getting it done shorthanded with two game-winning shorthanded goals this season, most recently last week's dramatic game winner with 12 seconds to play over San Diego.
ANDREW MANGIAPANE UP TO CALGARY
On Friday morning the Calgary Flames recalled winger Andrew Mangiapane from Stockton.
Mangiapane, currently in his third year with the Stockton Heat, is averaging more than a point-per-game this season with seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 13 games played. Last season Mangiapane spent 10 games with the Calgary Flames in addition to leading the Stockton Heat in scoring with 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points in 39 games. He was Calgary's sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft.
KEEPING IT CLOSE
Stockton's success this year has come in tight contests. The club boasts an impressive 6-1-1 record in one goal games this season. Conversely, Stockton is just 2-7 in games separated by three goals or more. In close games Stockton continues to find their offense in the third period. Goaltending has not been a team strength during most of the season, but they continue to get good goaltending in the third period, particularly when the game is tight.
INTERESTING FACT
Stockton is tied for the second most road games played in the league with 13. Their schedule will start to even out following a six game home stand. Although Stockton hasn't been great at home, getting into a rhythm at home with lots of practices should help kick start a good stretch at Stockton Arena.
