
Ziemmer, Heidt, and Young Lead Cougars to 5-0 Triumph Over Giants

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars continued their winning ways with a 5-0 victory over the Vancouver Giants, Tuesday at the CN Centre.
In a stellar performance, goaltender Ty Young secured his second career shutout, making 32 saves on 32 shots from the Vancouver Giants. The dynamic duo of Riley Heidt and Koehn Ziemmer took center stage, combining for eight points in the game, each contributing two goals and two assists.
The Cougars wasted no time establishing their dominance, setting the tone in the first period. Ziemmer's early drive up the right wing resulted in a goal just nine seconds into the game, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Ziemmer continued his scoring touch at 16:07, showcasing exceptional skill by batting a puck out of mid-air past goaltender Brett Mirwald, extending the lead to 2-0 after the opening 20 minutes.
The offensive onslaught continued into the second period, with Riley Heidt notching his 10th goal of the season just 1:30 in, further extending the Cougars' lead to 3-0. Heidt then displayed his playmaking abilities, securing his fourth point of the night on a man-advantage, making it 4-0 with assists from Koehn Ziemmer and Viliam Kmec at 9:30. The Cougars maintained their commanding four-goal lead after forty minutes of play.
The final stanza saw the Cougars adding another goal to their tally, with Hunter Laing showcasing his skill in front of the net, sliding the puck past Mirwald to seal the 5-0 victory. With this impressive win, the Prince George Cougars improve their season record to 14-5-0-0, maintaining their position at the top of the Western Conference.
