Cougars Aim for Sixth Consecutive Home Victory Tonight

Tonight at the CN Centre, the Prince George Cougars look for their sixth consecutive home victory, as they play host to the Vancouver Giants in the back half of a double-header.

The Cats are coming off a 5-0 blanking over the Giants last night. The game was highlighted by both Riley Heidt and Koehn Ziemmer, who accumulated a combined eight points in the win with both skaters owning two goals and two assists.

Ty Young earned his second career shutout, making 32 saves. Cougar 6'6 rookie Hunter Laing also added his third goal of the season in the win last night.

Despite not finding the back of the net last night, the Vancouver Giants blue-liner Mazden Leslie paced his team in shots on goal with five. Last night also marked the return of PG product Cameron Schmidt who helped Team Canada White to a gold medal at the World U17 Challenge.

ROLLIN RILEY:

With his four-point effort in a 5-0-win last night, Cougar forward Riley Heidt has collected points in 11 consecutive games. The Minnesota Wild 2nd round pick in 2023 owns 20 points on this streak which consists of six goals and 14 assists. Heidt's four-point night also has put him just two points behind Quinn Hancock for 9th-all time in franchise history in points. The Saskatoon, SK product sits 5th all-time in assists with 135 and sits just two helpers behind alumnus Nick Drazenovic for 4th all-time.

CHL TOP TEN:

The Cougars were ranked 2nd in the CHL Top 10 - Week 7. In their lone game of last week, the Cougars (13-5-0-0) edged the Red Deer Rebels 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night. Ondrej Becher scored twice before later tallying the shootout winner to lift Prince George to its seventh victory in 10 games. Belcher now has 31 points (12G-19A) this season, which places him in a tie for third in the WHL. Minnesota Wild prospect Riley Heidt picked up a helper to extend his point streak to 10 games (4G-12A over that stretch). Additionally, 20-year-old Zac Funk collected a goal and assist to give him 35 points (16G-19A) on the season, which places him in a tie for first in the CHL.
