Torino, ITALY - Stockton Thunder forward Maris Ziedins scored his first career Olympic goal to aid Saturday's 2006 Winter Olympic hockey tournament highlight reel, in a 6-1 Latvia loss to Sweden at Palasport Olimpico.

Ziedins, who also registered four penalty minutes with one shot, cashed Latvia's only goal midway through the third period, set up by Aleksandrs Nizivijs and Sandis Ozolinsh (Mighty Ducks of Anaheim) at the 9:10 mark, beating Sweden goaltender Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers).

It turned out to be Latvia's highlight of the game. Sweden scored the first six goals, led offensively by center Peter Forsberg's (Philadelphia Flyers) two assists, Daniel Alfredsson's (Ottawa Senators) two goals, and a goal and assist each from Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg (Detroit Red Wings).

Samuel Pahlsson (Mighty Ducks of Anaheim) put Sweden out front 1-0 with a goal at the first period's 14:20 mark, followed by a four-goal outburst by Sweden in the second period.

Sitting in fifth place in the tournament's "Group B" standings with two preliminary-round games to go (top four teams in each bracket qualify for the medal round), Ziedins and Team Latvia (0-2-1 tournament record) move onto face Russia on Sunday at 4:05 a.m. PT, with the game televised as part of a cable package on CNBC and NBC Universal HD from 3 - 9:30 a.m. PT.
