ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Ryan Gaucher scored twice and added an assist as the Alaska Aces rolled to their ninth straight home victory, 5-1 over the Long Beach Ice Dogs, in front of 4,682 at Sullivan Arena.

Alaska's nine straight wins in Anchorage have come by a combined score of 51-12, with none of the games being decided by fewer than three goals, and this victory denied Long Beach what would have been an ECHL record-setting 11th consecutive win on the road. Kimbi Daniels opened the scoring with his sixth goal in 11 games, a power play tally set up by Joe Talbot at 7:10. Three minutes later, with the Aces swarming against an overmatched Ice Dogs power play unit, Cam Keith fed Matt Shasby for a shorthanded goal off the rush and a 2-0 lead at intermission. Alaska out-shot Long Beach 16-5 over the opening 20 minutes and limited the ‘Dogs to just 10 shots through two periods.

The advantage grew to 3-0 when Gaucher snuck back door for his first goal, taking a pass from Mike Scott and whipping a one-timer past Jaroslav Halak at 4:16 of the second period. Gaucher, who leads all ECHL defensemen in scoring with 52 points, set up a power play goal by Scott with two and a half minutes left in the middle frame, then extended the margin to 5-0 with his second goal of the night at 12:42 of the third period. Only a tip-in by Christian Larrivee with 3:14 left in regulation denied Matt Underhill (21 saves) what would have been his league-leading fifth shutout.

The Aces, with a league-leading 40 wins against seven defeats and three overtime losses, maintain a six-point West Division lead over Las Vegas (6-1 winners over Fresno) and have dealt Long Beach its only two losses since January 7. The teams meet again tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m., and Sunday's series finale, a KeyBank "Skate with the Aces," will begin at 5:05 p.m. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com, where all home games and selected road contests also are available on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
