ECHL Olympic Update

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL is represented by 25 players and former Wheeling and current Team USA coach Peter Laviolette at the XX Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.

Nine of the 11 teams have an ECHL player led by Latvia which has eight former ECHL players including current Stockton Thunder Maris Ziedins.

Here is a look at how some of the former ECHL players performed on Saturday:

Maris Ziedins of the Stockton Thunder scored a goal and Sergei Naumov (Greensboro, 2000-01) made 34 saves in Latvia's 6-1 loss to Sweden.

Vitali Yeremeyev (Charlotte, 2000-02) made 49 saves in Kazakhstan's 1-0 loss to Russia.

John Parco ((Hampton Roads, 1994-95 and 1999-2000) and Tony Iob (Erie, 1992-93) each scored a goal and had an assist in Italy's 3-3 tie with Germany.

Olaf Kolzig (Hampton Roads, 1990-92) made 18 saves for Germany in its 3-3 tie with Italy.

Mark Streit (Tallahassee, 1999-2000) had an assist in Switzerland's 2-0 win against Canada.

Scott Gomez (Alaska, 2004-05) had an assist in the United States' 2-1 loss to Slovakia.

Tomas Vokoun (Wheeling, 1995-96) made 28 saves in the Czech Republic's 4-2 loss to Finland.
