Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Bombers and Royals met for the second time in as many nights on Saturday at the Nutter Center in front of a raucous 4,500 plus.

After giving up a goal within the first: 30 seconds of the game last night vs. Reading it was clear that the Bombers knew they had to come out of the gate ready to play, and that's exactly what they did in the first period tonight.

The Bombers out shot the Royals 12-5 at the end of the first period, but Royals starting goaltender Cody Rudkowsky stopped them all and both teams were scoreless after one.

The second period was a mirror image of the first early on, but after a while both teams started getting a feel for how they wanted to play against each other and the Royals turned up their offense out shooting the Bombers 15-11 in the second, but still no score after two periods of play.

Early on in the third both teams were feeling each other out to see which one was going to make that first and possibly only crucial mistake. At the 8:35 mark of the second period it wasn't a player per say but a bad bounce that went against the Bombers and the Royals Malcolm MacMillan drew Bombers goaltender Mike Brown out of his crease, then proceeded to slide it around Brown for the only goal of the game to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.

Dayton had plenty of chances in that third period, and really put as much pressure as possible on Rudkowsky and the Royals defense out shooting the Royals 15-5 in the third, but Rudkowsky was in a mind of his own and the puck appeared as a softball as he would make save after save with bodies around him and all kinds of congestion near his crease, but it didn't matter and at the end of the night he stopped all 38 shots to earn his second shutout of the season in the Royals 1-0 victory over the Bombers.

Mike Brown was almost just as brilliant stopping 24 out of the 25 shots he faced, but suffered his second loss since rejoining the Bombers from Providence and because of his effort he would pick up the third star recognition.

The Bombers continue their 15th Anniversary season in Toledo on Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm, as they take on their top rival in the Northern Division, the Toledo Storm at the Toledo Sports Arena. The game can be heard on line at www.daytonbombers.com. Dayton Bombers Hockey, celebrating 15 years of fun.
