Zephyrs Take Two From Isotopes
July 22, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Scott Seabol homered in both ends of the doubleheader, but scoring bursts for New Orleans in the final inning of both seven-inning games lifted the Zephyrs (52-49) to a pair of wins over the Isotopes (52-50) Sunday night at Isotopes Park. The Z's took game one 14-4, then prevailed 7-4 in the nightcap.
New Orleans used a seven-run seventh inning in game one to turn a tight ballgame into a comfortable lead en route to the victory. In the second game of the day, the Zephyrs unlocked a 2-2 tie in the final frame, scoring five times to take lead they'd manage to hang on to.
In the opener, Jesus Silva (0-1) took the loss, surrendering seven runs on eight hits through six innings of work. He walked two and punched out three. The 'Topes-helped by a two-run homer and an RBI single for Seabol, along with a sacrifice fly for Reggie Abercrombie-trailed by just three runs entering the final frame. New Orleans, though, roughed up 'Topes reliever Chris Young for seven runs-five earned-to claim the game one victory.
Starter Mike Pelfrey (3-3) earned the win, scattering four runs on seven hits through six innings. Mike DiFelice finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored and six driven in, including a double and two home runs.
In the nightcap, each team traded single tallies in the second and fourth innings, but Albuquerque didn't have enough to counter a five-run Zephyrs burs in the seventh.
The loss fell on Nate Field (6-6), the fourth of five Albuquerque hurlers to appear. He allowed two runs on two hits over 0.2 innings. Starter Ben Julianel worked 3.1 frames, allowing two runs-one earned-on two hits.
Zephyrs reliever Ivan Maldonado (1-0) picked up the win, despite allowing two runs on a hit over 1.2 innings. Jon Adkins collected his fourth save, recording the final out in the seventh.
The Isotopes and Zephrys close out the series on Monday night at Isotopes Park. Albuquerque gives the ball to right-hander Daniel Barone (5-0, 3.83), while the Zephrys counter with a former 'Tope, left-hander Jason Vargas (7-5, 5.19). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
