Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Portland, OR - Chris Carter hit two home runs, including a first inning grand slam, as the Sidewinders beat the Portland Beavers 10-8 on Sunday afternoon.
Carter's slam highlighted a four run first inning as Tucson saw the first four batters reach base. Alberto Callaspo and Rich Thompson started the game with singles and Carlos Quentin was hit by a pitch in front of Carter's drive to right-center.
Quentin left the game in the bottom of the first with a left forearm contusion. He is day-to-day.
The Sidewinders hit two other home runs in the contest as Carter led off the third inning with a solo shot to right and Jeff Salazar led off the sixth with a long ball into the Tucson bullpen.
Carter now has 14 home runs and 63 RBI. He leads the Sidewinders in both categories. His two home runs give him 134 hits, the most in the PCL.
Tucson saw their 6-2 lead trimmed to 6-5 as the Beavers scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh, but pushed the advantage back to five with a four run eighth. Jamie D'Antona had a RBI fielder's choice, Callaspo posted a RBI single and Matt Erickson added a sacrifice fly to go with a wild pitch from Portland reliever Jared Wells.
Chad Harville pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 25th save of the season.
