Z's sweep doubleheader

Jason Alfaro drilled a pair of home runs including a seventh inning grand slam as the Zephyrs swept a doubleheader over the Albuquerque Isotopes. Alfaro drove home a game high five RBI and capped a three home run day for the shortstop. The Z's broke a 2-2 tie in the top seventh with a Ricky Ledee RBI single scoring Fernando Tatis. New Orleans loaded the bases against former Zephyr Roy Corcoran and Alfaro drilled a grand slam over the left field wall. Alfaro homered in the fourth inning to give the Z's an early lead. The two teams battled back and forth with the Z's scoring a run in the top of the inning and the Isotopes answered in the bottom of the 2nd and 4th. The Isotopes drilled three home runs in the game with Scott Seabol and Val Pascucci hitting them off of starter Phil Humber. Ivan Maldonado wins his first game of the season and Nate Field suffered the defeat. The first place Zephyrs moved a half game ahead of Albuquerque.

Game Notes: The Zephyrs sweep of a doubleheader is their third of the season ..... Z's Jason Alfaro multi home run game is the Zephyrs fourth of the season .... The grand slam is the sixth of the year for the Z's and the 2nd for Alfaro. ....David Newhan has 13 game hit streak with the Z's... The Z's scored seven runs in the 7th inning in game one of the doubleheader... and 5 runs in the second game of the double dip.

Coming up: The Zephyrs and Isotopes meet in the final game of the five game series on Monday. Jason Vargas pitches for the Z's, and Daniel Barrone starts for the Isotopes in the 8:05 p.m. game at Isotopes Park. New Orleans returns home on Tuesday to start a 8 game home stand.
