Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, CA - For the first six innings of Sunday's contest, the Fresno Grizzlies were no-hit by Colorado Springs starter Mike Esposito. Only two base runners reached base during that span, each via the walk.

Still, the Grizzlies (53-49) snuck up from behind to steal a victory from the Sky Sox (53-48), taking the game 2-0. The win is the Grizzlies' sixth straight win, matching this year's season high, last accomplished May 29 - June 3 during a homestand that hosted Albuquerque and Round Rock.

Luckily for the Grizzlies, starter Patrick Misch was on his game as well, as he made his first start of the season a good one, throwing four innings of three-hit ball to earn a no-decision. Misch had previously pitched out of the bullpen for the Grizzlies and during his call-up with the San Francisco Giants.

Following the solid performance by Misch was Matt Kinney, who pitched five innings of scoreless ball himself. Kinney picked up his second consecutive win to improve to 6-9 on the year.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Fresno's Scott McClain came through with the first hit of the night for the Grizzlies. McClain would be the first of two unearned runs, as he scored from second base after tagging up on a Tomas De La Rosa fly ball, followed by a throwing error.

Nate Schierholtz singled two batters later, and became the Grizzlies second unearned run of the day on a play that saw Colorado Springs commit two of their three errors in the game. Schierholtz stole second base and advanced to third base on a throwing error by Sky Sox catcher Alvin Colina, followed by a throwing error by center fielder Joe Gaetti, allowing Schierholtz to score.

Colorado Springs starter Mike Esposito took the loss despite throwing eight innings and surrendering only two Grizzlies' hits. Tomorrow will be the final game of the homestand for the Grizzlies, as they aim for a four-game sweep of the Sky Sox.

The 7:05 p.m. start will feature Monday Madness (presented by Wienerschnitzel), where fans can get 2 tickets, 2 hot dogs and 2 sodas for only $14. The Grizzlies will also pay tribute to The Simpsons and host a food drive benefiting the Poverello House presented by the Fresno Falcons. Fans donating non-perishable food items will be able to purchase a Super View ticket for just $5.

Tickets are available at the Chukchansi Park ticket office, over the phone at 559-320-TIXS, or online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
