Fresno Wins Duel With Sky Sox For Fifth Straight Win

July 22, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, CA - For the first time this homestand, Fresno Grizzlies fans may have had to do a double-take for the lack of runs scored by the Grizzlies.

Still, in the end, it was the Grizzlies (52-49) who came away victorious, taking the second game from the Colorado Sky Sox (53-47) in what began as a pitchers duel and ended in a 4-2 Fresno win.

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox received a solid start from Bobby Keppel, who kept the Grizzlies grounded until the seventh inning, when Fresno's Nate Schierholtz erased the zero from the Grizzlies' scoreboard with a solo home run, his 10th of the season.

As it turned out, the home run by Schierholtz opened the floodgates for the Grizzlies' offense. Fresno sent 10 batters to the plate as part of a four run inning, allowing starter Sun Woo Kim to fall in line for his third win of the year.

For Kim, it was his third consecutive quality start, as he allowed two Sky Sox runs on seven hits, but was efficient on the mound, throwing just 79 pitches. In his last three starts, Kim has allowed a total of 10 hits, with tonight's start the lone one in which he was credited with a victory. Fresno's Brian Wilson picked up his team-high seventh save of the season.

The Grizzlies have now won five-straight games, including the first two games of their four-game series with the Sky Sox, which will conclude Monday.

Tomorrow's game with Colorado Springs will be eventful and then-some as the Grizzlies present Free All You Can Eat Ice Cream for all fans in attendance. In addition, the third game of the series will include Sunday Autograph Sessions (presented by ABC 30) and Kids Run the Bases (presented by Del Taco) following the game. Following Kids Run the Bases, fans will be invited onto the field to enjoy the Ben Stiller movie Night at the Museum on the Chukchansi Park videoboard.

Tickets are available at the Chukchansi Park ticket office, over the phone at 559-320-TIXS, or online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
