
Zephyrs Name Players of the Month

Metairie, LA âThe New Orleans Zephyrs, the Class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros are pleased to announce the players of the month for May. Metairie native Kirk Bullinger is pitcher of the month, Raul Chavez is offensive player of the month and Colin Porter is defensive player of the month for the Zephyrs. The Astros Player Development Department honors these players with the Zephyrs field staff choosing the winners.
Bullinger who played at Archbishop Rummel High School and Southeastern Louisiana University was 1-1 with six saves in the month of May. He had a 0.55 ERA (1ER/16.1 IP) allowing only nine hits, striking out eleven and walking four.
Chavez is the offensive player of the moth for the Zephyrs batting .372(32x86) for the month of May. Chavez belted four home runs, eight doubles and drove in 19 runs.
Porter is the Zephyrs defensive player of the month. The outfielder helped the Zephyrs defensively by contributing 55 put-outs and five assists, while committing just one error.
The Zephyrs continue a four game series with the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines on Friday at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs calling the action.
