DES MOINES, Iowa -- Bobby Hill knocked home four runs and Dave Kelton finished with a pair of RBI to help the Iowa Cubs defeat the New Orleans Zephyrs, 10-5 on Thursday Night in Des Moines.
Hill had an RBI single in the third inning, capped a five-run fourth with a two-run double and lofted a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Kelton drilled a two-run homer in the seventh, his sixth of the season. Nate Frese and Mike Mahoney both plated a run and scored twice for Iowa, which won for just the seventh time in its last 16 road games. Alan Benes (1-0) allowed two runs -- one earned -- and three hits with three strikeouts in three innings for the win.
Alan Zinter connected on a three-run homer in the fourth inning and singled home a run in the fifth for New Orleans, which lost for just the third time in eight meetings with the Cubs this season. Rodrigo Rosario (5-6) gave up six runs, five hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings for the loss. Jason Alfaro was 3-3 on the night.
The series with the Cubs resumes on Friday Night at 7:05 p.m. in Des Moines. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 with Tim Grubbs calling the action.
