
Ferrari Selected, Manon Recalled

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that right-handed pitcher Julio Manon has been recalled and left-handed pitcher Anthony Ferrari has been selected by the Montreal Expos. In addition the club announced that right-handed pitcher Sun Woo Kim has optioned to the Trappers from Montreal. Edmonton's roster currently stands at 22 players, nine pitchers, three catchers, five infielders and five outfielders, plus two players (right-handed pitcher Britt Reames and right-handed pitcher Troy Mattes) on the disabled list.
Manon, 29, was 1-0, 0.99 (27.1 IP - 3 ER) with 12 saves in 22 appearances with the Trappers. He walked 12 and struck out 35 while opponents batted just .170 (17-for-100). The Guerra Distrito, Dominican Republic native is currently tied for fourth in the Pacific Coast League in saves. Manon was 8-6, 3.50 (105.1 IP - 41 ER) with two saves in 28 games (13 starts) with Triple-A Ottawa in 2002 and was also 5-1, 3.00 (39.0 IP - 13 ER) in six starts with Double-A Harrisburg. He was signed as a free agent by the Expos on June 20, 2000. Manon originally signed as a non-drafted free agent with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1992 and entered the 2003 season with a career minor league record of 40-46 in 259 appearances (79 starts). He posted eight saves and a 4.23 ERA (765.2 IP - 360 ER) in that time.
Ferrari, 24, was 1-1, 2.57 (14.0 IP - 4 ER) in nine appearances with the Trappers. He was 2-0, 0.56 (16.0 IP - 1 ER) with five saves in 14 appearances with Harrisburg. Ferrari began the season with 10 scoreless appearances, covering 13.0 innings, and allowed a run in only one of his outings with the Senators. He was transferred to Edmonton on May 5. The San Francisco, California native was 7-4, 4.06 (75.1 IP - 34 ER) with six saves in 44 games with Harrisburg in 2002. He was originally drafted by the Expos out of Lewis & Clark State in the 44th round of the 2000 draft. Ferrari began the season with a career minor league record of 11-9 in 120 appearances. He posted a 2.41 ERA (179.0 IP - 48 ER) and recorded 32 saves coming into this season.
Kim, 25, was 0-1, 12.46 (4.1 IP - 6 ER) in one start with the Expos after being recalled on May 31 to replace the injured Zach Day. He is 5-3, 4.73 (59.0 IP - 31 ER) in 10 starts with the Trappers this season. The Seoul, South Korea native has tossed two three-hit, complete game shutouts at TELUS Field. He has also been durable, pitching 6.0 or more innings in eight of his 10 outings with Edmonton. Kim split the 2002 season between four clubs, going 2-0, 7.45 (29.0 IP - 24 ER) in 15 appearances (two starts) with the Boston Red Sox, 1-0, 0.89 (20.1 IP - 2 ER) in four appearances (three starts) with the Expos, 4-2, 3.18 (45.1 IP - 16 ER) in eight starts with Triple-A Pawtucket and 3-0, 1.24 (43.2 IP - 6 ER) in seven starts with Triple-A Ottawa. The Expos acquired Kim, along with right-handed pitcher Seung Song from the Red Sox in exchange for outfielder Cliff Floyd on July 30, 2002. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Red Sox on January 15, 1998. Kim began the season with a career minor league record on 45-32 in 112 appearances (104 starts). He posted a 4.81 ERA (614.1 IP - 328 ER) in that time.
