Sidewinders Drop Eighth Straight

Portland overcame an early 2-0 deficit and defeated Tucson 6-5 Friday afternoon at PGE Park in Portland. The loss was the eighth straight for the Sidewinders and dropped Tucson to just 3-11 vs Portland this year.

Tucson scored first in the second inning when Mike Bell and Brad Cresse connected for long solo home runs off Oliver Perez. Perez retired the next 11 batters and finished with 11 strikeouts in six innings of work. Perez earned the win to even his record at 3-3.

The Beavers tied the game in the bottom of the second scoring a pair of unearned runs. Portland took the lead for good in the third when Tagg Bozied doubled in Jermaine Clark. The Beavers added single runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings.

Cresse pulled Tucson to within a run in the ninth when he crushed his second long home run of the game. The home run sailed over the 30 foot concrete wall, cleared the back wall of the stadium and landed on the street outside the stadium.

Brady Raggio (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing five runs, three earned in 5.1 innings of work.

The Sidewinders dropped to 24-35 with the loss. Game three of the series will be played Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Phil Stockman (0-1 3.00) will make the start for Tucson. The Beavers will throw Ben Howard (4-5 4.27).
