New Orleans took a 2-0 series lead with an 8-6 victory over the RedHawks Friday night at Zephyr Field. It's the first time since May 20-21 that RedHawks have dropped consecutive games.
Will Smith drove in three runs for Oklahoma and Ian Kinsler chipped in two RBIs for the Hawks, who fell to 36-26.
RedHawks starter R.A. Dickey (0-1) took the loss by allowing all eight New Orleans runs on 12 hits in six innings. Brian Powell (2-4) worked 8.1 innings for the win.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first, The RedHawks took a brief 3-2 lead in the third on Kinsler's two-run single. But New Orleans countered with a three-run third and never looked back.
The RedHawks threatened in the ninth, scoring twice to close to within 8-6. Travis Hughes earned his fifth save by stranding the potential tying runs at first and second, getting the final two outs.
New Orleans improves to 28-33 on the season.
Game three of the series is schedule for 6:05 p.m. CDT on Saturday. John Hudgins will start for Oklahoma against lefty Matt White.
