Round Rock Express News Release


(ROUND ROCK, TX) - The Express are off today as they travel from New Orleans to Albuquerque where they will take on the Isotopes in a four game series beginning tomorrow. Listen to the Express on 1260/1530 AM ESPN Radio or listen on line at www.roundrockexpress.com. The pre-game show with Mike Capps, the voice of the Round Rock Express, begins at 7:35 PM CST and first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM CST. The Express split the series in New Orleans and are currently in third place in the PCL American Southern Division with a 30-30 record. They trail Oklahoma (36-24) and Albuquerque (32-28). The Express return to The Dell Diamond on Monday, June 13 to take on the Memphis Redbirds in a four game series.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros Player Development Department has named the following players for the month of May. These awards are chosen every month by the field staff of each team.

INF CHRIS BURKE - DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Burke played 18 games at 2B and 4 in LF for Round Rock in May. He totaled 42 assists, 54 put-outs and helped turn 15 double-plays. Burke was recalled to the Astros on May 31.

EXPRESS ALUMNI UPDATE- Former Express 2B/OF Chris Burke broke up Pedro Martinez' no-hitter last night in the seventh inning with his first big league home run. It was not enough as the Mets won the game 3-1. Burke is hitting .219 (14-for-64) for the Astros.
OF Willy Taveras is hitting .276 (54-for-196) and leading the major leagues in infield hits and is second in the NL with 17 stolen bases. OF/1B Todd Self is hitting .190 (8-for-42) since joining the Astros on May 10. C Humberto Quintero is 1-for-4 with one RBI in one start for the Astros. LHP Wandy Rodriguez is 1-2 with a 10.67 ERA in three starts for the Astros. He has struck out 15 and walked three batters in 14.1 innings.

Bogusevic first-round pick; club selects 20 on first day

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros selected 20 players on the first day of the 2005 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft today, including left-handed pitcher Brian Bogusevic from Tulane University in the first round.

Overall in the first day, the Astros selected five right-handed pitchers, two left-handed pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and five outfielders. Houston selected Koby Clemens, son of Astros pitcher Roger Clemens, in the eighth round as the 254th pick overall. The younger Clemens, drafted as a third baseman, hit .523 (56x107) with 10 home runs and 55 RBI for Memorial High School in 2005. Clemens also went 8-3 with a 3.17 ERA and 86 strikeouts on the mound this year, including tossing three no-hitters. He was named the Most Valuable Player for District 18-5A. In addition to Clemens, the Astros selected two other players with Major League ties. Outfielder Eli Iorg, selected in the first-round compensation from the University of Tennessee, is the son of former Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Garth Iorg; and catcher Ralph Henriquez, taken in the second round from Key West High School, is the son of Ralph Henriquez, a catching instructor in the Atlanta Braves organization.

The 50-round, two-day draft will conclude tomorrow afternoon.
